Diagnostic and Therapeutic Expertise

Since the program’s inception in 2000, The Heart & Vascular Institute has continuously achieved among the lowest mortality rates in New Jersey for isolated coronary artery bypass graft surgery. Englewood Hospital has received this distinction from NJ’s Department of Health and Senior Services despite accepting a high proportion of highly complex cardiac cases, including those which have been turned away by other institutions. Its cardiac surgery program also has one of the lowest blood transfusion rates in the country, due to the hospital’s continuing commitment to bloodless medicine and surgery. The program’s results have been published in a landmark article in the Annals of Thoracic Surgery.

The Medical Center was the first hospital in Bergen County to offer endovascular stent grafting of the thoracic aorta and aortic dissection care. It is also a leading center for the treatment of arrhythmias; our team of electrophysiologists have published in the Journal of Cardiovascular Electrophysiology an innovative technique to make treatment even safer.

Proper diagnosis and early treatment are especially important components of cardiac care. The hospital has been a leader in heart attack care with a “door to balloon” time 20 minutes below the national average over the past 6 years.

The Institute’s CT Angiography Center utilizes a state-of the-art 64-slice detection scanner – the first scanner fast enough to accurately reveal blockages in the coronary arteries. Our center is one of the few which has computerized reporting and routine correlation with invasive angiographic data. This groundbreaking technology enables doctors to begin treatment before problems occur.
